It has been a busy few weeks. The kids got to ride in all sorts of different transportation vehicles. It was Gryffin's dream come true! Right after classes ended we went to the Virgin Islands with the D'Arews. To get there we had to wake the kids up at 4AM to catch a 6:15 AM flight. We were hoping we could just pick them up half asleep and put them in the van so they would sleep on the way to the airport. No such luck. We went in, gently woke them and Gryffin jumped up and screamed "We get to take two planes now!" He could not stop talking the whole way to the airport. I like to call him my little chatter box. Zailey has taken to calling him that too - this may end badly. But, then again he likes to call her Zailey Bailey - a little nickname I also started...she already hates it. I guess when they grow up, they can blame it all on their mother. As I mentioned we went to the Virgin Islands with Andrew, D'Arcy and Riley.
We stayed on St. Thomas and rented a house for the week. Great idea -
except one slight detail...the house only had air conditioning in the bedrooms. After one day in the house I have officially labeled myself a California wuss. Luckily the kids didn't seem to mind and the house had a pool - so we spent a lot of time in it.
The kids really got into jumping into the pool, here's Riley leaping from the edge.
Zailey even came up with her own jump. Its name wasn't spoken out loud, instead it was a very elaborate arm movement. The actual jump was her jumping and adding a half turn in mid air, so that she landed in you arms facing the other direction. She was soooo proud of herself.
We also spent a lot of time at the secluded beach near the house.
The kids did a lot of digging in the sand,
And we even took them "boating" a few times.
What was really amazing to me was how many "big kid" things they did during this trip. Unfortunately, the house was supposed to come with 2 pack and plays. Not so much. So, for the first time ever, they slept on a mattress without enclosures. They loved it, and it was most certainly more traumatic for Mom and Dad than the kids. Luckily, we've only had occasional comments on "big kid" beds since we got back home. I know, I know...we'll have to free them soon. But oh how I love to be able to sleep through the entire night without the threat of a small child climbing into the bed. We'll keep you posted on that one. The cribs are not long for this world. :(
They also rode their first Ferris wheel. Again they loved it and it was only traumatic for mom. As you know Ferris wheels don't come with five-point harnesses. So, Zailey kept trying to stand up to get a better view, which resulted in mild heart attacks for me every time we were at the top.
They rode a ferry boat to St. John. Gryffin was thrilled about this.
(As an aside - can you believe there is only a year between these kids in age!)
They also spent a lot of time in the ocean. Zailey really loved the water. Gryffin, well he would often end up digging in the sand, but he still joined us in the water. It was so much fun to play in the water with the kids.
Here's one for the "Many Faces of Zailey" Album!
We had a great time - despite some real temper tantrums from Gryffin. But, the kids are still talking about the trip and I am really looking forward to our next trip!
