Summer Fun

So, when we are out and about people will often comment on how we have "mini-me"s for children.  Gryffin is a little replica of Jesse (with reddish hair) and Zailey is a little replica of me.  Yet, there are definitely traits in each of them that are from the opposite parent.  Take my ambivalence (ha ha - try absolute fear) towards water and Jesse's love for it.  The other weekend we had a new inflatable pool setup in the backyard.  Zailey spent the entire morning in the pool, dunking her head and trying the little slide from every angle.

Her teeth were literally chattering as we finally dragged her out.  Gryffin on the other hand, spent the whole morning sweeping with his broom.  He wouldn't come near the pool.  In fact this is his typical response, we can often only get him to put his feet in.  Something tells me we're going to have a long road ahead with swim lessons (if memory serves me!).

The other addition to our backyard this summer has been a little house for the kids (so many available on Craig's list).  They love it.  They will often pretend to cook inside and then tell each other to "come in" or "get out", depending on Zailey's mood!

They have discovered watermelon this summer - they love it.  One afternoon they managed to finish off one of those mini-watermelons between the two of them.  Needless to say - that was their dinner too.

So, this picture of Zailey with the watermelon and the hat is a great example of how much they both love to dress up.  In particular it is all about this matching hat and purse set that my mom bought them awhile ago.  They love to put the hat on then hang the purse on their elbow and "take a trip." They walk out of the room, we say bye-bye and then they come right back with this enthusiastic "HELLO!!!"   It's great.

And of course Zailey never needs help with the strap on the hat or getting the purse on her elbow - "Zailey DO IT."

For a long time, nothing could replace Gryffin's affection for his broom, but I believe the broom may have lost it's first place status to Gryffin's guitar.  He loves to hold it, tune it (well - have the tuner on his knee and watch the lights), and play it.  He has even started singing.  He's a regular rock star.
